Good Nutrition to Build Muscle Mass

BODY BEAST Nutrition

Nutrition is the KEY to BODY BEAST!

BODY BEAST NutritionI just finished my first week of BODY BEAST and all I can say is WOW.  So far this program has been everything that I expected and more.  I am very sore and completely worn out after a week of heavy lifting, but I really think that my body is already starting to change.  I am feeling stronger, bigger and more energetic.  Although, there are no visible changes yet on the outside, the soreness tells me that my muscles are working and that change is happening.

How to Eat
A huge part of my focus this week has been on nutrition.  I need to ensure that I eat enough calories to get me through my workout, and to replenish my muscles.  My target in this phase of the program is to eat 3200 calories per day.  The BODY BEAST guide book includes calculations to determine your specific calorie needs based on your weight and body fat percentage.  The book also recommends maintaining a ratio of 50% carbs, 25% protein, and 25% fat over the course of the day.  I have been trying to space out the food so that I am eating every 2-3 hours.  It is better to eat smaller meals more often instead of a few huge meals because your body can better digest the smaller meals and get the maximum nutrients out of the food.

Tropical Strawberry Shakeology

A Tropical Paradise for your Health

Tropical Strawberry ShakeologyTropical Strawberry Shakeology is the newest, delicious smoothie flavor in the Shakeology lineup. Tropical Strawberry Shakeology features tropical flavors of Strawberry, Banana, Pineapple, Papaya, and Coconut.  It is a light and fruity flavor that is very mild and mixes easily with other healthy additions to create hundreds of unique custom flavors.

But Tropical Strawberry is not just a new flavor, but a totally new formula that contains no animal products, no dairy or lactose, only plant-based proteins, and it is 100% Vegan.  This new Vegan formula is a breakthrough in the nutrition industry because of the proprietary plant-based protein blend.  The primary source of protein is raw, sprouted, bio-fermented brown rice.  This is not new for the industry, but what is revolutionary about Shakeology is the smooth texture in Tropical Strawberry Shakeology.  Other Vegan protein shakes on the market have a gritty texture that leaves your mouth feeling gross.  Beachbody has developed a special processing method that makes the brown rice protein as smooth and creamy as whey protein.  In addition to sprouted brown rice, the formula also contains protein from Sacha inchi, Chia, Flax, Quinoa, Amaranth, and Spirulina to provide all 9 essential amino acids to your body.  This formula makes it incredibly easy for your body to assimilate and digest these amino acids so they can go right to work building muscles.  A recently published article included Spirulina and Chia as 2 of the 8 Most Nutrient Dense Foods on Earth.

8 Foods to Build Muscle

Healthy Eating for Better Fitness

One of the most important factors when trying to build muscle and get ripped is to eat the right foods.  When I was super skiny an not working out, I ate pretty much anything I wanted.  Cake, cookies, chips, soda... you name it.  Due to my high metabolism I didn't gain weight, but I always felt tired and unhealthy.  Of course it wasn't until I started cleaning up my diet that I realized what it was like to feel healthy and energetic.

Building muscle is highly dependent on eating the right foods to fuel your body.  Over the last couple of years, I have spent a lot of time searching for the foods that would help me to build strong, lean muscle and gain weight without a lot of bulk.  I have found a few key foods that I really like that provide great health benefits.

1. Chicken - OK, this one is probably pretty obvious, but it is also very important.  Chicken is high in protein and low in fat.  Protein is the building block of muscle and is the key to adding mass.  Plus chicken can be prepared in hundreds of different ways that helps to keep it interesting.
