Body Beast: Day 1 Revew

Starting my 90-day BODY BEAST Challenge

BODY BEAST WorkoutI have been waiting for months and today I am officially starting the new BODY BEAST program from Beachbody.  I will be blogging and documenting my experience with BODY BEAST over the next 90 days so that you can see my progress.  Over the next 90 days you and I can both judge whether or not this program can really help a skinny guy like me gain mass and build muscle.  I will be following the BODY BEAST nutrition plan, taking the new Extreme Nutrition supplements and working out at 5:00 am every day to get the best results possible.  I am hoping to gain 10-15 pounds of mass and really see some definition form in my muscles.

Day 1 of BODY BEAST was focused on Chest and Tris.  I got up at 5am ready to go and pumped up to try this new workout for the first time.  I just finished a round of P90X 2 weeks ago, so I am in pretty decent shape, but this is totally different than P90X.  I started out really strong with some presses and flys, but about 3/4 of the way through the workout my arms were toast.  I really struggled through the last few sets and I almost plastered my face to the floor trying to do close grip (military style) pushups at the end.  The workout moves very quickly and I had to pause the video quite a few times just to find the correct weights and figure out what I was supposed to be doing.  I think that after a few times through the workout I will be able to keep up with the pace of the workout a little better.

After the workout I followed the prescribed post workout nutrition.  I made a smoothie that included the Extreme Nutrition Fuel Shot, Hardcore Base Shake, M.A.X. Creatine and 100% white grape juice.  The Body Beast guide book emphasizes the importance of this post workout shake because your muscles are depleted and primed to absorb nutrients at this time.  You have about 1 hour after your workout to get the most benefit from the shake.  The rest of the day I focused on reaching my goals of 3200 calories and maintaining a ratio of 50% Carbs, 25% Protein, and 25% Fat.  That wasn't too hard because after the intense morning workout, I felt hungry every couple hour throughout the day.
